Surrounded by the Coconino National Forest, the property is home to the area’s only full-service spa and a championship 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Panks. The par-71 course has been awarded a four-star rating by Golf Digest.

Each of the resort’s 219 guestrooms and suites offers views of either the golf course or nearby red-hued mountains and features mini-bars, fireplaces, coffee makers, cable TV, and computer data ports.

The Hilton Spa offers various spa treatments based on a synthesis of earth traditions such as Ayurvedic massage, Painted Desert clay wrap, and an ancient sea salt lavender scrub. I tried the 90-minute full circle massage that relaxed me into a blissful slumber.

Nothing goes as well with spa services as a good meal and here again, I found no reason to leave the property. The resort’s Grill at Shadow Rock serves a contemporary continental cuisine with a southwestern accent. For lunch, try their tantalizing Portobello on baguette.

While it may be tempting to hang around the resort, do venture out and experience all that Sedona has to offer. There are jeep tours that explore the canyons, monuments and ancient Native American cliff dwellings; hiking; and mountain biking. Far away from the city lights you can relax under the stars or take an astronomy tour with Evening Sky Tours for one of the best unobstructed views of the galaxy. If shopping is your bag then you won’t be bored. There are a number of upscale boutiques throughout town to keep you busy for hours.
